What Makes A Better Hearing Aid?

Back-to-School Hearing Health for Students and Parents
August 15, 2024Summer heat, humidity, sweat, and water activities are the top threats to hearing aids each year. A few consistent habits can protect your devices and keep them performing at their best through the hottest months.
Heat and Storage
Never leave hearing aids in a parked car during summer. Interior temperatures can exceed 130 degrees Fahrenheit — enough to warp components, drain batteries, and corrupt electronics. When not in use, store devices in a cool, dry place away from windows and direct sunlight.
Managing Moisture
Sweat contains salt and minerals that accelerate corrosion inside hearing aid housings. Use a hearing aid dehumidifier nightly during summer months — not just when devices feel wet. This one habit dramatically extends device lifespan.
Water Exposure
Most hearing aids are water-resistant, not waterproof. Remove devices before swimming, showering, or any activity where submersion is possible. IP68-rated devices can handle brief submersion, but “water resistant” ratings do not mean the same thing.
